The Hibberdene Harbour & Waterfront proposal represents a development project and must adhere to the regulations as stipulated in Section 22 of the Environment Conservation Act No. 73 of 1989. Details above.

To this end, the appropriate Environmental Impact Assessment studies has been undertaken.

As this is a new project, the conceptual planning can be based on the best current methods of minimising impact on the valuable natural and marine environment. The whole project can be constructed in such a way that it becomes an environmental model. The harbour area will add an extra 700 metres of artificial reef and will have a minimal impact on the tidal zone.

Sensitive areas will be demarcated during the construction period, and then upgraded to a pristine state on completion. The harbour will lead to a whole range of non-consumptive tourist-related activities such as whale, dolphin and sardine watching, diving and swimming, etc.
